The lightweight, compact 500 series had some random light meter problems. Normally, we do not shy from electronics problems but Nizo made some custom controls for the manual meter adjust that were made as part of the circuit board. If that part breaks there is absolutely no way to replace it. The camera is rendered totally useless. The side cover has to be removed to inspect for this problem. The camera appears completely normal in all other respects. Call or text us on these. Most of them can be fixed.
The FABULOUS 800 Series has the incredible Schneider 12 to 1 macro zoom lens. What a piece of glass! It is fast, sharp, and HEAVY. So heavy that the mounting screws that secure it to the body can actually strip out. This problem MUST be solved as soon as the lens starts to feel loose or it will destroy both the lens and the mounting plate. IF you get it in to your repair person it can be fixed but it is not going to be cheap. The lens must be removed which means the aperature plate and prism assembly must be removed and...... You get the idea. It takes time and that costs money. But to save such a beautiful instrument might be worth it to you. Our only advantage is that we have done it numerous times so we no longer have to guess what to do (or not to do). Other than that, the rest of tha camera has the same problems as all other old equipment. Let us take care of it for you and it will give a long useful life.
THE BAD NEWS
Like every successful company thet took it one step too far. The later cameras like the 6080 are gorgeous, professional looking works of art. However, they are electronic nightmares. If they work when you get them, hooray. If they break they are generably not fixable. When the side covers are removed, the entire side is one large electronic circuit board. None of the motor or other mechanical parts are visible and therefore are not serviceable. This coupled with the fact that the circuit boards are covered with connectors that come loose and corrode make these cosmetically beautiful units ones to avoid.
NOW THE GOOD NEWS
These cameras have a variable shutter that you can actually use.You can effectively double your shutter speed with the flick of a switch. It is great for shooting surf, racing, skateboarding, or anything where you need the look of extra sharpness that comes from a higher (shorter) shutter speed. Also, most models have a built in intervalometer. As you can tell, these are some of our favorite cameras.
I am shooting some examples to show how some of the special features work. If only there were more than 24 hours in a day. Be patient, I will get there.
